Eligibility Requirements
A selection committee composed of UAS7 academics and international education experts will select the SIP Scholarship grantees. To be considered for the SIP program, students have to meet these eligibility requirements:
- Full-time students in good academic standing currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree-granting program at an accredited US or Canadian college or university.
- Currently enrolled as Sophomores or Juniors in one of these fields – engineering, science, life sciences; business, management, economics; architecture, art, design; journalism, social work.
- Outstanding academic record and personal integrity, as proven by academic achievement and letters of recommendation.
- Hold US or Canadian citizenship or be a permanent resident thereof. Foreign nationals are eligible if they have been full-time students at an accredited US or Canadian university for more than one year at the time of application and intend to return to the US or to Canada after the scholarship period to complete their Bachelor’s degree.
- A well-defined study and internship proposal for their stay in Germany.
- Submit the DAAD language evaluation form with their application, although German language competency is not a mandatory requirement of the program. (If you do NOT have any prior knowledge of German, you do not need to submit this form!)
- Have an interest in contemporary German and European affairs and be able to convincingly relate the significance of their stay in Germany to their future academic studies and aims and/or professional goals.
- An age limit of 32 at the start of the grant period.
Application Process
The application form has to be completed ONLINE HERE. You must send the original printout of the application with your personal signature, your supplemental documents and materials, and 4 copies of these materials in one package to the DAAD New York office. Be certain to submit all materials and the correct number of copies (4) of each. Incomplete or late applications can not be accepted.

Terms of Award
Scholarship
The financial support during the six months of university study comprises:
- €675 per month for living expenses, including a monthly contribution to cover health and accident liability insurance
- €850 contribution to travel expenses (€1 ≈ 1.40 S$, Oct. 2007)
Internship
Paid internship, min. €500 per month to help cover monthly living expenses.
Program Schedule
August/September
- Orientation week in Germany: Registration and formalities, introduction to the program
- German language course (3 weeks)
September/October-February
- 1 semester of study at one of the UAS7 universities
Students can choose from a wide range of subjects and classes offered in English (or in German, depending on the degree of language competence in German). Also, students can improve their German by taking additional language classes.
March-July
- 1 semester professional student internship in a company or research institute in Germany
